The Collector’s Lament: The Atari 5200 that Got Away and Came Back to Haunt Me

As a retro gaming collector, I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems to add to my collection. But there’s one console that I passed on, and now I regret it: the Atari 5200. I remember seeing it boxed in a store in Oshawa, a pretty good retro location called GAMES on Simcoe. At the time, I didn’t want to spend the money on it. Little did I know that its value would skyrocket in the years to come.
Now, every time I see the ridiculous prices on eBay, I can’t help but lament my decision. I mean, who could have predicted that a console with a wonky controller and a somewhat lackluster library of games would become so valuable? I guess I’ll just have to settle for playing “Ms. Pac-Man” on my Atari 2600.
So, to all the collectors out there, take it from me: if you see a rare console at a decent price, jump on it before it’s too late. After all, it’s better to have a dusty box in your closet than to have a hole in your heart.
