From Assassin’s Creed: Origins to Tales of Kenzera™: ZAU, Abubakar Salim is reshaping the gaming landscape with powerful, inclusive narratives.
When I first learned about Abubakar Salim through the Gaming Awards, I was absolutely blown away. It was such a proud moment to see the incredible work he was doing, especially as someone who deeply cares about representation in gaming. The announcement of Tales of Kenzera™: ZAU felt so pivotal, like a significant milestone in the industry. It may take years, maybe even generations, for projects like this to fully realize their potential, but I am thrilled to see games like this finally taking the stage. It’s time to tell different stories—stories that reflect the diversity of experiences and cultures that make up the gaming community. And it’s time for us to show our support for those who are making the effort to bring these voices to life.
When the short docu-video showcasing Abubakar’s journey was shown, it really resonated with me on a personal level. To see someone so passionate, so dedicated, and so focused on creating something meaningful—it left a lasting impact. I’m incredibly grateful that I lived long enough to see it unfold. This is a moment in time that feels so important for the gaming industry, and it inspires me to continue pushing for diversity and inclusion, to keep supporting creators who are striving to make their voices heard.
